RULES AS OF MADDEN 11 Empty
PostSubject: RULES AS OF MADDEN 11   RULES AS OF MADDEN 11 EmptySun Dec 12, 2010 2:30 pm

Rules
These rules are based on several other Sim leagues, in order to provide a familiar game play feel for everyone. MANDATORY.

The league staff reserves the right to add, adjust, or remove rules at any time. The object is to have fun here.

# UNIFORMS
The Home and Away teams MUST WEAR DIFFERENT COLOR UNIFORMS. If the home team wears dark colors the away team CANT have dark colors in their uniforms.

The GFL will be introducing uniform specific weeks in the up coming season. So we might be having "Throwback week", or "Alternate week", or "AFL week".

# GAME SCHEDULING
Scheduling is the most important part of Online Franchises. If you can't schedule, you can't play. Plain and simple. Here are the main ways the GFL community should communicate:
*Forums
*AIM, or all other Instant messaging services you are signed up for. (AIM is the league's main messenger though!. Strongly encouraged, as we have a Blast chat that everyone is apart of.)
*Owners page- The owners page is located under the "GFL Home" tab. It displays Owner's emails, their preferred messenger service, as well as location to provide so you know their time zone.
# SPORTSMANSHIP
Points scored is not used as a tie-breaking procedure (in madden), so running up the score to pad your stats is not showing good sportsmanship toward your opponent! This is a straight league and this is firmly discouraged. Respect one another at all times, which means allowing your opponent’s defense to get set before you snap the ball, please keep it fair.

Now the exception to this is in a two-minute offense and the clock running, the offense is not required to wait (common sense).

When an opponent pauses the game you are required to wait until the player who paused the game continues the game. There is to be NO forcing the clock to run on the opponent who paused the game!!
The only exception to this rule will be: If you wait longer then a minute, and you have already messaged the opponent, and asked what was going on. If they do not respond in the next minute, or 2, and they have paused on more then one occasion, taking up excessive time, then you can hit the resume button. Please do not be selfish, and unpause as soon as they pause the game, as this does sometimes cause lag, and if they are fixing their depth chart, or defensive adjustments, it takes longer, and they will probably just pause again.

# PLAYER SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
Madden allows you to change personnel in different formations from the play selection screen. The league does not allow WRs to play RBs or TEs; RBs to play TE; so if you utilize the switching personnel feature PLEASE DO SO WITH CAUTION. Calling audibles that put WRs and RBs in the above situations is not allowed. (If you do audible and your WR moves to the RB or FB position, send him in motion and set him at a WR position)

Acceptable position changes:
QB (QB)
HB (RB)
FB (FB, HB, or TE)
TE (TE)
WR (WR)
OLine (can play any OLine position)
DLine (can play any Dline position)
LB's (can play any LB position and DE)
SS/FS (are interchangeable)
CB (CB)
KR/PR (Any player eligible)

There is ONE exception to the sub rule: If in the NFL, a player you have on your roster is listed as a WR, but sometimes is playing out of the backfield (IE:Percy Harvin takes maybe 3-4 snaps a game from the backfield, as he played part time HB in College, or Brad Smith from the Jets played full time QB in college, and was converted to WR in the NFL), you can ASK PERMISSION from the Commish (younggunn4z) and he, and his staff will vote. If we feel its ALRIGHT ON A LIMITED BASIS, we will approve it. However, if its abused, you will hear about it.

OFFENSIVE GAMEPLAY

# CONTROLLING PLAYERS
You cannot pick plays and let the computer run them. In addition, you must control your QB throws and RB/WR movement at all times. (if they have possession of the ball)

# PLAY CALLING
Coaches in the NFL mix up their play calling, however, when a coach sees that a team is weak in an area, they exploit it. This is legal with some exceptions. Do not call the same play or pattern over and over again. If a team can't stop the run or pass, you may exploit them with a heavy dose of either one by using a number of different plays. Keep in mind you should still be mixing up your plays. We should not see a 70/30% ratio or higher either with passing or running. We will be watching this closely due to recent issues. To add, we should not be seeing all pass one half, and all run the next. Mix up your play calling over the entire game.

# NO QUICK SNAPPING. ALLOW THE DEFENSE TO SET![
(An exception to this would be if the play clock is about to hit zero. Otherwise, a one or two second count would be sufficient.)

# HURRY-UP OFFENSE
All teams are allowed to run the "hurry up" offense in both two minute drill situations. Any team losing in the 4th quarter is permitted to hurry up as often as they like. When using the hurry up offense, please allow your opponent to set their defense before snapping the ball. Purposely trying to cause offsides penalties is obviously prohibited.

# MOTION
If you manually motion a player, you MUST allow the player to come to a stop BEFORE starting your play.

# PLAY-ACTION PASS
Play-action should only be used in warranted running situations. There is no rule against running play-action on 3rd down, however, please make certain it is a warranted situation.

# LOBBING THE BALL/MANUALLY MOVING RECEIVERS
Owners may manually control WR’s to make a possession catch, however…
(1) Running out of bounds on a bomb to avoid the DB, and then swooping back in the make the catch is prohibited.
(2) Manually controlling the WR before the snap and allowing the CPU to control the QB is prohibited.
(3) Manually controlling the WR during the play and pulling them off of their route to gain an advantage over the defense OR to manual "rocket catch" is prohibited. If the ball is up in the air however, and your waiting for it next to 1, or multiple DBs, you are allowed to lobby for position to go up for the ball to swat it down to avoid an interception, or make a catch.

# DROPPING/ROLLING THE QB
Dropping or rolling to avoid a sack is warranted if defensive pressure is there. You can't intentionally drop your QB back 10+ yards just to get receivers open. If you're found doing this by any owner, you'll be warned, then removed.

# GOAL LINE FORMATION
The goal line formation may be used at anytime if the offense is within 10 yards or less of either end zone. It may also be used in situations involving one yard or less to attain a first down.

# RUNNING OUT THE CLOCK
Since we are not playing 15 minute quarters, we have to be cautious of excessively running clock. "Killing the clock" is only permitted with under 2:00 to go in the 2nd quarter and under 3:00 in the 4th quarter, or you are up by 35 or more points in the 2nd quarter, and on. Excessively running the clock at any other time could result in a forfeit, a replay, or other action. "Killing the clock" would mean running the play clock down excessively under 15-20 seconds every play. We all know there are certain situations that are unavoidable, but when the game clock is running between plays, please try to have your play selected and the ball snapped with the play off before 20 seconds are left on the play clock.

# 4TH DOWN RULE
We encourage straight play in this league, however, we do not want to limit players to the point where they cannot play aggressively. With that in mind, there will be a simple rule on 4th downs:

(1) Whenever you are past the 50 yard line with 1 yard or less to go, you are permitted to go for it on 4th down.
(2) If you are behind by two touchdowns or more in the second half, you can go for it whenever you like.
(3) If you are the losing team in the 4th quarter, you can go for it whenever you like.
Fake kicks ARE ALLOWED TWICE A GAME So I suggest you be cautious when picking a play on Field Goal/Punt coverage. A portion of football is about the element of surprise.

# RUNNING UP THE SCORE
Running up the score is not allowed in this league. If you are ahead in the 4th quarter by 21 points or more you should be running the ball. With 2 minutes left: you must either run the ball or QB kneel. Any unnecessary scoring or stat padding will not be tolerated. Use your best judgment. Show sportsmanship by respecting your opponent.

DEFENSIVE GAMEPLAY

# PLAY CALLING
There are teams in the NFL that rely on their speed on defense and sometimes blitz all game. We ask for our coaches to mix things up on both sides of the ball. However, it is not illegal to blitz all game. The offense will need to find a way to counter the defensive scheme and we feel that true ballers can. NFL teams also shift players around in order to get a better blitz angle. However, there are a lot of "glitch blitzes" that prevent us from allowing owners to move players around on defense other than Madden shifts or manually controlled players.

# DEFENSIVE PLAYER MOVEMENT
Manual player movement of a defender pre-snap is NOT ALLOWED UNLESS you are lining up a MAN DEFENDER up on his man. On some plays a defender will be on the opposite side of the formation, for whatever the reason may be. If you do this, you must line them up DIRECTLY over the Receiver, and a minimum of 3 yards off of them. Obviously Madden shifts are allowed.

# SPREADING AND LOOPING
"Spreading and looping" is prohibited. To elaborate, spreading the DL and audibling the DE's to crash out around the OT's, whether audibled or already in the original play that was called in the huddle, is not allowed. YOU MUST ENGAGE AN OLINE WHEN RUSHING AS A DLINE

MISC

# DISCONNECTS:
Unfortunately, disconnects sometimes happen during ps3 games because of internet or network issues. Our policy for disconnects is as follows:

A. The game has more than three minutes left in the game, and (B) DOES NOT APPLY!, then the game WILL be replayed regardless of score.
B. There are less than three minutes left in the game, and the person who has the ball has a two score (20+ Point) lead. If the leader at that point is given the option to quit and count the game, you may accept the win.

Obviously, this policy is not perfect and relies heavily on the honesty of our owners. That said, I will be watching disconnects closely and if i detect a trend or suspect someone of disconnecting purposely, that person will be booted.

# GAME SIMULATIONS
If an owner has made a full effort to contact their opponent, and either 1. you receive no response, or 2. He tells you "I dont feel like playing now" or "I'm playing Call of Duty" (<--The 2nd excuse has happened to all of us at one time or another lol) PLEASE inform the staff, so we can deal with the situation accordingly.

If there is no contact after the staff member has issued a warning, one of a few things will happen:
1.The active owner of the matchup will be given the choice to play a sub
2.The active owner will get the sim win if they agree to sim. (This is done by dropping all of the opponents key players, and then simming. I have never seen this method fail, however keep in mind its not 100% Fool proof)

If any circumstances prevent an owner from playing a game on time (illness, vacation, etc.) you MUST send the commish a msg on PSN, the forums, AIM, or email.

If the staff determines that both parties were at fault, the game will be determined by a CPU simulation. Once games are simulated, they cannot be "replayed" as the EA servers do not allow us to change game results.
# FREE AGENT SIGNINGS
Currently, we do not have a Free agency rule in place, aside from the fact that you have to be Salary cap compliant. However, we do ask, unless you are JUST taking your team over in the middle of the season, obviously you didn't draft the team, so you are free to exchange as many players as you'd like for the 1st week. Outside of this, We strongly ask that you don't sign people to just sign them. Injuries are also an understandable exception.

# WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS
Any computer operated player, or owner we feel were stat padding and or running up the score or warned for doing so will not be available for any weekly awards

# DRAFT RULES
Each offseason we will do a rookie draft of 7 rounds. The draft order is determined by madden.

# PLAYER #'s RULE
Be sure to skim through your roster and make sure you don't have any duplicate player numbers. The game automatically assigns numbers to rookies and doesn't change player numbers when they are traded. So please make sure your player #s aren't duplicated.
**Note: You can't do this in the franchise through online, you can only do it on the PS3.

# TRADE RULE
The staff reserves the right to deny any trade.

You can ONLY TRADE For all new members, you MUST play at least TWO FULL games before any trades can be complete. If you join during week 5, or 6, I understand that the trade deadline is looming. If you have a deal workout prior to the deadline, you will be allowed to process it after the 2 game grace period.

Owners may trade any combination of players and/or draft picks as long as the trade proposal is posted in the forum and the trade is agreed upon by both parties.
NO PLAYERS MAY BE SWITCHED FROM TEAM TO TEAM TIL APPROVED IS POSTED IN THE TRADE THREAD MADE.

ANY PLAYER OR FREE AGENT traded for or signed CAN NOT BE RE-TRADED until the following season.

Trade proposal format is posted as follows and it must be used for a trade to be accepted:

Player B - POS, Overall Rating, Potential or draft pick
Player C - POS, Overall Rating, Potential or draft pick
